Your students have beautiful sounds in their head that they desperately want to create. Let them! Choosing repertoire is one of the toughest, important challenges for a teacher, especially in the later stages. If it’s too hard, a student will get disheartened fast and if they don’t like it, they can develop a negative relationship with the piano.
If there’s one thing I’d like you to take away from today’s podcast it’s this. “Your student probably has sounds in their head that they want to create. Find out what they are and help them make those sounds.”
